Building Department Information

Welcome to the Village of Norridge.  The Building Department coordinates various resident and business activities, such as permits, sale of property, health, and property maintenance.  Our Code Enforcement Officers are trained to protect health, safety and welfare in both structures and premises in the Village of Norridge.

Permits

All construction, remodeling, or upgrading of property in the Village of Norridge requires a permit.  There are 2 types of permits.

Contractor Permit - All contractors working in the Village of Norridge are required to register their business on an annual basis.  This ensures that the contractor is bonded, insured, and if applicable, has submitted a required city/state license.  Contractors must apply for the permit and submit a proposal, and pick-up the permit.

Homeowner Permit - A homeowner is doing their own work and/or someone is helping them do the work.  The homeowner is assuming all responsibility for liability and performance of the work.  The homeowner who is doing the work must apply for the permit.

Permit Fees - Majority of permits do not require a permit fee.  Only major construction or major remodeling will require a fee which is calculated by the size/scale of the project..  A Contractor or Homeowner Permit does not determine fee amounts.

Property Sale Inspections

Sale of any property in Norridge requires an inspection to ensure compliance. Violations need to be corrected  prior to the sale of the property  However, the buyer can assume the responsibility of the repairs and would have 30 days after closing to correct the violations.

Health

Any health issues should be referred to the Health Inspector who will complete a thorough investigation of the problem.  If necessary the Health Inspector may be in contact with and assisted by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Property Maintenance

The Property Maintenance Code ensures the protection of public health, safety and welfare in both existing residential and nonresidential structures and on all existing premises.  Issues of concern should be directed to the Building Department.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Building Department Staff at
708-453-0311.
