The Village of Norridge and the Norridge Police Department would like to make you aware of a current scam and to review some important safety reminders as we grow closer and closer to the holidays. These scams increase during this time of the year.
A resident has reported that she received an automated phone call this week from someone saying that were from ComEd informing her that her service will be cut off today due to non-payment history and to press 2 to make a payment or call a certain number. When ComEd was contacted they verified that it was not them calling THIS IS A SCAM…COM ED WOULD NEVER CALL YOU TO MAKE A PAYMENT OVER THE PHONE. Please never give any financial information to anyone over the phone. If you are in doubt, hang up and contact the company yourself to verify the information.
Listen carefully for some Public Safety Announcements – as colder weather comes into the area, please don’t leave your keys in your car as it is running unattended, when you run into to pay for gas, for a quick trip into a store, or even “warming up” your car in the driveway. Also, always remember to perform your “9:00 P.M. lock check……are all my car and house doors locked”.
If you are ordering on-line, some tips for avoiding Porch Pirates: track your packages, be available for delivery, or have the package delivered to your business if possible, require a signature, chose in-store pickup, keep a security camera or doorbell camera pointed at your doorstep.
Finally, if someone knocks on your door claiming to be Village employee and they are there to perform some service, do not let them in unless you have scheduled an appointment. All Village of Norridge employees wear uniforms that have the Village of Norridge logo on it, in addition to the employee’s name and title. They drive in clearly marked yellow or white pickup trucks that are also marked with the Village’s logo on the truck. All Village of Norridge employees also have Village issued picture I.D.’s that MUST be presented before you let them into your house. If someone knocks on your door that you are not expecting, or cannot produce proper Village identification, DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOME! Close the door and call 9-1-1- immediately.
If you have any questions, please contact the Norridge Village Hall at 708-453-0800. If you witness or suspect anything out of the ordinary, please call 9-1-1- and report the activity.
