Welcome to the Village of Norridge. The Building Department coordinates various residential and business activities, such as permits, sale of property, health, and property maintenance. The Department is responsible for the review and approval of all construction plans for conformance with applicable codes as well as conducting site inspection for all projects. Our Code Enforcement Officers are trained to protect health, safety and welfare in both structures and on premises in the Village of Norridge.

All construction, remodeling, or upgrading of property in the Village of Norridge requires a permit. There are 2 types of permits.

Contractor Permit

All contractors working in the Village of Norridge are required to register their business on an annual basis. This ensures that the contractor is bonded, insured, and if applicable, has submitted a required city/state license. Contractors must apply for the permit, submit a proposal, and pick-up the permit once approved.

Homeowner Permit

A homeowner is doing their own work and/or someone, other than a contractor, is helping them do the work. The homeowner doing the work must apply for the permit.

Permit Fees

Majority of permits do not require a permit fee. Only major construction or major remodeling will require a fee which is calculated by the size/scale of the project. A Contractor or Homeowner Permit does not determine fee amounts. An Administrative Fee of $25.00 for residential and $50.00 for business permits is required.  Permit fees are charged on the following:

 Asphalt Paving  $0.10/sq. ft.
 Concrete Work  $0.15/sq. ft.
 Fence Work  $1.00/linear ft.
 Roofing  $0.10/sq. ft. of building
Lawn Sprinkler Systems  $5.00 per head or minimum of $25.00
 Backflow RPZ Device  $25.00

Property Sale Inspections

Sale of any property in Norridge requires an inspection to ensure compliance for zoning and that the proper smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors are installed and working. Any violations need to be corrected prior to the sale of the property. The fee for an inspection is $100.00 for the initial inspection and $25.00 for any subsequent inspections.

Any health issues should be referred to the Health Inspector who will complete a thorough investigation of the problem. If necessary the Health Inspector may be in contact with and assisted by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Property Maintenance

The Property Maintenance Code ensures the protection of public health, safety and welfare in both existing residential and nonresidential structures and on all existing premises. Issues of concern should be directed to the Building Department.

Certificate of Occupancy

Any new business or remodeling of an existing business will require an occupancy inspection prior to being able to open. An inspection is also required if only a name change of ownership is applicable.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Building Department Staff.
